I’ve had my fair share of toxic bosses.

The most recent one told me he’d “fire me on the spot” if I ever again tried to reschedule a meeting so I could see my therapist after she had a last-minute cancellation. (Do you know how hard it is to get into a passably decent therapist these days?)

The one before that wrote me up for insubordination after I sent an email to an upper-level colleague without her permission.

And the one before that? He told me I would never achieve a leadership position because my “top five” Clifton Strengths didn’t fall into diverse enough categories to make me dynamic enough.

I’m sure you can relate to having a bad boss in your career. Whether you’re in the knowledge industry, health care or the trades, bad bosses stink up a place real fast and their kind of asshole comes in all shapes and sizes, don’t they?

But the boss I have now? She’s the worst.

She criticizes every single word I write.

She tells me to get over my personal life and just get the work done.

She’s concerned about my mental health but never supports me in efforts to improve it.
